Dental Bridges

Looking for Dental Bridges in North York? - Visit Bayview Smile Centre Dental

If you are missing one or many teeth, you may benefit from tooth replacement using a dental bridge or bridges. A bridge is a non-surgical, and very reliable way to replace a missing tooth or teeth. A bridge is a fixed restoration that can help to replace missing teeth and regain your chewing function. A bridge can also be an aesthetic solution if you have visible gaps in your smile. At Bayview Smile Centre, our team of skilled dentists can help you decide if a dental bridge is right for you

What Is a Dental Bridge?

A dental bridge is exactly what it sounds like - This type of restoration uses one of more artificial teeth and achors them into place using existing strong teeth or dental implants. This creates a “bridge” over the space left by missing teeth. There are many reasons you may be interested in a bridge - chewing function, aesthetics, and even preventing the neighbouring teeth from shifting into spaces left by missing teeth.

Why Choose a Dental Bridge?

Function

Replacing missing teeth with a bridge can help to restore chewing function, and also allow you to speak and smile naturally.

Prevent Facial Sagging

When teeth are missing, it can have a big effect on the appearance of your face. Missing teeth can cause the cheeks to appear sunken in and actually make you look older than you are. Preserve your profile by replacing missing teeth.

Prevent Other Teeth from Moving

When teeth are missing and spaces are left untreated, neighbouring teeth can shift and drift into the empty space.

Permanent & Non-Removeable

Bridges are cemented or secured in place mechanically, unlike removeable partials and dentures

Different Types of Bridges in Dentistry

At Bayview Smile Centre, we provide several bridge options tailored to your unique dental situation:

  • Traditional Bridge

A traditional bridge uses neighbouring teeth as abutments to secure the artificial teeth in place
  • Cantilever Bridge

Not as popular, as they are not as secure. This is a good option when there are not teeth on both sides of the gap – This type of bridge is only appropriate in certain situations.
  • Maryland Bonded Bridge

Another less popular bridge method, a Maryland bridge is a more conservative option, where the pontic is only bonded to the backs of the abutment teeth, instead of being secured by a complete crown.
  • Implant-Supported Bridge

When there are too many missing teeth to support a bridge, sometimes dental implants are used as abutments for the bridge.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long will my bridge last?

A well made bridge should last many years; with good home care and regular dental care, you should expect your bridge to be reliable for 10-15+ years.

Is having a bridge painful?

The procedure to prepare and install a dental bridge is typically very comfortabe, only needing local anaesthetic (dental freezing) to make the process pain-free. Directly after bridge placement, there may be some temporary sensitivity.

Is a bridge better than an implant?

Both types of tooth replacement have pros and cons. While bridges are quicker to complete and require no surgery, they do need strong abutment teeth to be successful. Dental implants do not require teeth for support, and also do not require any preparation of neighbouring teeth. Which one you choose depends on what you want - We can help you make the right choice for you.

Will you be able to tell I have a bridge?

Your bridge will blend in seamlessly with the rest of your teeth. We use very natural looking materials to fabricate crowns and bridges - No one will know but your dentist!
